Medical student input has been integral to the work of AskDoc, since its inception in 2011. We have had the support and effort of the students, who formed an Executive Committee. They helped to design and deliver workshops to local communities, utilizing the knowledge and skills gained in medical school.
The ultimate vision, though, was to create a student AskDoc society, to increase the student voice and their contribution to this invaluable work.
This desire was finally achieved in 2020, with the Students Union at the University of Manchester approving the AskDoc student society. This would not have been possible without the efforts of our Volunteers Lead, the late Abdulrahman Elbayouk. Abdulrahman was instrumental in creating the committee, led by 4th year Maliha Momo.
We hope that the continued successes of the student society will be a lasting legacy for the work of Abdulrahman.
Meet the Committee
Maliha Momo: President
“I am a fourth year medical student at Manchester. I joined AskDoc student society because I want to play an active role in educating the BAME community about their health and increasing their engagement with the healthcare system. Outside medicine, I enjoy swimming, road trips, and a good night’s sleep.”
Join the team as they welcome guest speakers, to discuss mental health in ethnic minority communities!
